India today summoned Pakistan's senior diplomat in New Delhi, its Chargé d'Affaires, to lodge a formal protest regarding alleged cross-border infiltration and a border firing incident. The summons followed a protest by Pakistan concerning the reported killing of two individuals near the Punjab border, an incident that both nations have described with differing accounts, according to reports from Business Standard and NDTV.
The summoning of Pakistan's Chargé d'Affaires occurred on Friday, October 3, 2026. India's Ministry of External Affairs called the diplomat to convey its strong concerns over what it described as cross-border infiltration, according to NDTV and Times of India. The move also addressed a border firing incident near Ferozepur, as reported by Business Standard.
The diplomatic action by India came after Pakistan had itself lodged a protest over the alleged killing of two men. This incident reportedly took place on October 2 near the Punjab border, according to Business Standard. However, India has firmly rejected Pakistan's assertions regarding this incident. The Indian Express and Times of India reported that India dismissed Pakistan's claims as "baseless."
According to Business Standard, both India and Pakistan have presented different accounts of the incident that occurred on October 2. While Pakistan protested the alleged killings, India's protest focused on cross-border infiltration and a firing incident in the Ferozepur sector.
During the meeting with Pakistan's Chargé d'Affaires, India conveyed specific expectations to the Pakistani side. According to NDTV, India called upon the diplomat to ensure that Pakistan respects the sanctity of the International Border. Furthermore, India urged Pakistan to strictly observe all relevant bilateral arrangements between the two countries. India also mandated that Pakistan's forces exercise effective control to prevent any unauthorized movement from its side of the border.
