AIIMS Admission Promise Leads to ₹10 Lakh Fraud
A family in Nagpur was allegedly defrauded of ₹10 lakh by a man who promised to arrange their daughter's admission to an MBBS program at a reputed medical institution, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), according to nagpurtoday.in.
Police identified the accused as Ashish Gosavi, a resident of Durga Nagar, Bharatwada. He allegedly approached the family of Dinesh Thakre, a resident of Kalamna, on August 1 last year. Thakre's daughter had appeared for the NEET-UG examination.
Gosavi reportedly convinced the family by showing what police describe as fake documents, claiming he could secure an MBBS seat. He then allegedly collected ₹10 lakh from Thakre in various installments. These payments were purportedly for admission-related expenses, college fees, and other charges, nagpurtoday.in reported, citing police.
When the daughter did not gain admission to any medical college despite the payments, the family began to question Gosavi. He allegedly prolonged the matter, offering different excuses and asserting that the admission process was still underway. As time elapsed without either the promised admission or the return of their money, the Thakre family suspected they had been cheated.
They subsequently filed a complaint with the Kalamna Police. Based on this complaint, police have registered a case against Ashish Gosavi. The charges include cheating under relevant sections of the law. Authorities are currently investigating the alleged fake documents presented by Gosavi and scrutinizing the financial transactions involving the ₹10 lakh payment, according to nagpurtoday.in.
