Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Member of Parliament Omraje Nimbalkar visited a protest by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) students in Pune on Sunday, October 4, 2026, promising to convey their demands, including the resignation of the MPSC chairman, to the Chief Minister. However, students at the protest site chanted "Go Back" during his address, according to tv9marathi.com.
The protest, which is ongoing at the APMC in Pune, saw Nimbalkar engage with the students. He assured them that he would advocate for their demands. Despite his assurances, students voiced their disapproval, leading to a discussion about the reception of political figures at student demonstrations, tv9marathi.com reported.
Interaction with Protesting Students
During his visit, Omraje Nimbalkar addressed the students, drawing a distinction between their struggles and those of politicians. "Your exam is for a lifetime. Our election is for five years," Nimbalkar stated, according to tv9marathi.com. He added, "Your sufferings are much more than ours. I have to convey your demands to the government. I have a connection with common people."
Some students present at the protest reportedly asked Nimbalkar to contact Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directly and demand the MPSC chairman's resignation. In response to the students' chants, Nimbalkar questioned their reaction, asking, "Did I make a mistake by coming to support you?" He further affirmed his commitment to representing their concerns, saying, "I will convey your feelings 100% to the government. Who can take the MPSC chairman's resignation?"
The "Go Back" chants continued during Nimbalkar's speech. He responded by referencing his past, stating, "Whatever happened, I never left the common man's side. I didn't become Omraje just like that. I became this through struggles."
Promises to Address Demands
Nimbalkar reiterated his pledge to support the students' cause. He specifically promised to take up their demand for the MPSC chairman's resignation with the Chief Minister. "Regarding the resignation, I will meet CM Saheb with your issue and request him," Nimbalkar assured the students, as reported by tv9marathi.com. "Your demand is for the resignation of the competitive exam chairman, I will convey that to the government. I will personally meet the Chief Minister with your issue. I will request action on your demand."
He also touched upon his political background, mentioning issues related to party defections and his dedication to his constituency. "I have to honestly say about party defections. I work 24 hours for my constituency," Nimbalkar said, according to tv9marathi.com. He added, "When Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, Nagar Palika elections happened in that constituency, didn't we deserve to win even one Panchayat Samiti? People cannot work without truth. Because of this, we lost."
Student Perspectives
Prior to Nimbalkar's visit, Abhijit Dipke reportedly commented on the broader societal situation concerning education and employment. "The situation in our country is such that those who are educated, who have degrees, are sitting on the streets. Those who do not have degrees are sitting on chairs," Dipke was quoted as saying by tv9marathi.com. He added, "There is no awareness of education. No one values education. I am still learning to speak. We will interact with students. I am more educated than those I guide. More than those sitting in those chairs. Just do as they say. Give the position to whoever pays more."
